Since 1990, The Windsor-Essex Down Syndrome Association (Up About Down) is an organization of people committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Through programs, activities and sharing of resources, we promote family connections, education and advocacy within our community.
Who We Are
The Windsor-Essex Down Syndrome Association (Up About Down) is a non-profit organization founded in 1990. A small group of parents of children with Down syndrome recognized the need in the community to support each other, share information, and advocate for their children. Over the years, we have grown into a much larger group supporting each other while growing our services and programs.
We do not have physical premises and are run entirely by volunteers. We are a registered charity and any funds received go toward programs and services of the Association.
We are dedicated to:
- Providing social connections, information and educational networks and programs for parents and families
- Advocating for individuals with Down syndrome to lead healthy, happy and active lives in our community
- Assisting with inclusion of people with Down syndrome within the community
Our services and activities include:
- Activities and programs to promote social and developmental/life skills for our members
- Activities and events to promote connections among families to offer support, friendships and information sharing
- Providing families with educational resources and connections to various community organizations for services and information
- Advocacy and awareness within the community
